That single structural fact defines the trade here: no pitch to shed water, drainage through a single point or a scupper, shared walls with neighbours on both sides, and a freeze-thaw cycle working on everything all winter.

The Rowhome Roof

What Philadelphians call a flat roof is a low-slope roof, usually pitched slightly toward the rear or toward an internal drain.
